Job Description

Part-time educational sales position for individual with wind or orchestral string instrument background. Ideal for retired music educators.

Requirements:

  • Wind or orchestral string instrument background
  • Experience in sales and customer service
  • Availability to work evenings and Saturdays
  • Must provide own suitable transportation

Job responsibilities include:

  • Maintain up-to-date contacts and schedule beginner recruitment events, batch deliveries, and additional events when necessary.
  • Weekly school visits with established educator clients, picking up and delivering instruments, supplies, music and repairs, and providing school service for rental accounts.
  • Communicating with teachers, staff, and customers about logistics of school deliveries and returns.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year college degree, or equivalent experience, and a background in instrumental music is preferred.
  • Working to uphold a strong sense of community and provide superior service

Part-Time Music Sales Associate

Job responsibilities include:

  • Providing customers with up-to-date information on instruments, accessories, and print music
  • Maintaining store displays, appearance, and stock, and transferring inventory between stores
  • Assisting customers with new rentals and providing service throughout their rental agreement
  • Reaching out to our customer base regarding purchases with rental credit and various store promotions via phone and email
  • Facilitating communication between students and private lesson instructors
  • Recruiting for lesson studios and managing all customer and teacher payments
  • Accepting instruments for repair and informing customers of proper instrument care procedures
  • Communicating with teachers, staff, and customers about logistics of school deliveries and returns
  • Working to uphold a strong sense of community and make our customers feel welcome

Candidates must be available to work evening and weekend hours, and must provide their own transportation to work.

Part-time work is immediately available. A new hire must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period before their position is considered permanent. Potential for later promotion to full time work is possible subject to performance and availability.

Woodwind Repair Technician

Job Description

Johnstonbaugh’s Music Centers Band Repair Technicians must share our passion for serving our customers. The technician’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to completing repairs, adjustments, overhauls, and preventative maintenance services on customer and rental pool band instruments. Our Band Repair Technicians provide support to both private and educational customers.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Complete band instrument evaluation, set up, and repairs in a timely manner and consistent with JMC standards. Work on customer, manufacture warranty work, and JMC stock woodwind instruments.
  • Regularly communicates with customers to answer questions about repairs, and may assist Sales Associates in providing additional information during the selling. This includes assembly and disassembly of instruments.
  • Maintain up to date technical knowledge on tools and techniques for the following:
    • Soldering soft and silver
    • Operating machine tools-including proper safety, lathes, drill press, buffing machine and bench motors
    • Installing pads with a light touch including flute open and closed, cork pads, bladder skin pads, saxophone pads, bassoon pads, leather clarinet pads and piccolo pads
    • Key to key adjustment on flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, bass clarinet, saxophone, bassoon
    • Removing lost motion, swedging pliers, shims, etc
    • Installing tenon and neck corks, key corks
    • Evaluating, diagnosing and estimating instruments

Qualifications: 3-5 years of woodwind repair experience preferred
