Ryan Kantner is a professional musician and educator in the greater Pittsburgh area, and has been actively studying and performing music for over twenty years. Ryan teaches and performs on a variety of instruments, but mainly specializes in acoustic and electric guitar, electric and upright bass, and drum set and percussion, while also maintaining a healthy interest in ukulele, mandolin, banjo, and singing. Ryan has performed live and in the studio with many different types of groups, ranging from rock, jazz, blues and funk, to country, classical, marching bands and klezmer.

From a teaching point of view, Ryan seeks to impart his students with musical skills and values that are useful in real-life applications. Rather than just focusing on rote book knowledge and the memorization of facts, lesson time is spent learning how to ask good questions, think critically, and to be aware of the physical and mental hurdles that can get in the way of music making.

Ryan is a 2007 graduate of West Chester University, where he studied percussion, upright bass, and literature. Since then, he has been busy as a performer, educator, and amateur etymologist.
