Amanda Sage is a flutist and private teacher from the Pittsburgh area. She has served as principal flute with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic, principal flute, and second flute/piccolo with Undercroft Opera, as well as performed with the Edgewood, Westmoreland, and Johnstown Symphonies. She also performs in various solo, chamber, and larger ensemble roles in a variety of venues throughout the Pittsburgh area, including the newly formed Bel Suono Ensemble of which she is a founding member. An advocate of early music and historical performance, Amanda also plays the baroque flute. She has performed in masterclasses for baroque flutists Kim Pineda, Janet See, and Barthold Kuijken.

As an educator, she has nearly 12 years of experience in private instruction, along with her many years of experience teaching both instrumental and general music (K-12). Amanda's students have experienced success in passing auditions for various middle and high school honor level ensembles, as well as colleges and universities for those who decide to pursue a music career. In addition to her private studio, Amanda serves as adjunct flute instructor at Mercyhurst University, as well as adjunct faculty lecturer in music at West Virginia Northern Community College.

Beyond music, Amanda is a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Amanda has presented workshops on the topic of performance health for musicians at several different events including the annual Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, the annual National Flute Convention, and the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia's annual Flute Fair. Amanda received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Seton Hill University, and a Master of Music degree in flute performance from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Brittany Trotter is an active soloist, orchestral, and chamber performer based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a Contributing Faculty in Flute at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. A multi-portfolio artist, she performs music ranging from classical, contemporary, and jazz styles.

Trotter is a dynamic performer and chamber musician. She has performed and presented at regional flute conventions including the Society of Greater Philadelphia Flute Fair, Rochester Flute Fair, Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair, and the National Flute Association Convention. An active chamber musician, Trotter substitute regularly with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra and the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. A core member of the ReIgnite Trio and the Incidental Chamber Players, Trotter engages with the musical community in the Pittsburgh area by presenting engaging concerts of classical and contemporary chamber music.

As a teacher, many of Trotter's students have successfully passed auditions for regional and state honor bands ensemble, as well as college and university auditions. A trained Suzuki teacher, Trotter’s students range in ages from 3yrs to 60yrs old including various levels of ability.

A native of Laurel, MS, Trotter received her Bachelor of Music Performance and Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She completed her Master of Music degree at the University of Wyoming, where she served as the flute graduate teaching assistant. Trotter completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree and Certificate in University Teaching at West Virginia University where she was awarded the prestigious Swiger Fellowship.

Scott is an elementary band director at Shaler Area Elementary School. His duties include directing the 4th, 5th and 6th grade bands as well as teaching some of the 4th and 5th grade strings. He is currently in his 13th year at Shaler.

Scott has been teaching clarinet and saxophone lessons at Johnstonbaughs since 2008. He has had many successful students from Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Pine-Richland, and Shaler. Many of the junior high and senior high students Scott has worked with have been accepted into Alle-Valley honors band as well as PMEA festivals.

Scott teaches all grade levels of saxophone from beginners in 4th grade to high school students. Scott also teaches beginning and middle school level clarinet lessons.

Lurrene Parker

Lurrene Parker is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in music education. She taught in the public schools at all levels for the past 32 years She is very in tune with what young musicians need to be successful in their school band or other musical endeavors. Lurrene plays tenor sax and clarinet in the North Pittsburgh Symphonic Dixieland Band and lead alto in the Harmony/Zelienople Jazz Band. She also enjoys playing in local musical pits.

Justin Kohan is the principal trumpet of the Akron, Canton, and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed with groups such as the Buffalo Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, and Portland Symphony Orchestras. In addition to performing, Justin is also an active teacher. He coaches members of both the Akron, and Canton Youth Orchestras, as well as a handful of students at Johnstonbaugh’s Music Center, and the Community College of Allegheny County.

He earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory, and a Master of Music Degree as well as an Advanced Musical Studies Certification from Carnegie Mellon University. His primary teachers include Neal Berntsen, Thomas Rolfs, and Micah Wilkinson. Justin is an alumnus of the Brevard Music Center, and National Repertory Orchestra.

Matthew McCormack currently serves as Second Trumpet of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. He appears with many orchestras and large performing groups throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area, including the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, and the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. As an active chamber musician, Matthew performs with many groups of varying styles, including the Brass Roots and the Wee Jamz.

Matthew has taught private trumpet lessons at Johnstonbaugh’s Music Center since the summer of 2016 and has since cultivated a large and successful studio of young musicians. His students have been selected to participate in many honor bands in the area, including PMEA, Allegheny Valley Honors Band, and the North District Catholic School Honor Band.

Matthew received his Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance and Advanced Musical Studies certificate from Carnegie Mellon University and received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. His principal teachers include Micah Wilkinson, Neal Berntsen, George Vosburgh, Dr. Ryan Gardner, and Dr. Jonathan Martin.

Jacob Wiggins

Jacob Wiggins is the Second Horn of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, where he has performed since 2018. He has also worked with the Pittsburgh Opera, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the San Antonio Symphony. In the Summers, Jacob has performed at the Aspen Music Festival, Brevard Music Center, and Texas Music Festival. As a teacher, Jacob spent a decade working with private students in Houston, Texas, where he cultivated a healthy studio of beginners and advanced students alike. His students were successful in regional and state-wide competitions.

Jacob holds an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance from the University of Houston. His principal teachers include Mark Houghton, Robert Johnson, Zach Smith.

Ryan is a native of Pittsburgh having attended the Shaler Area School district. He attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a Music Education major, and following graduation moved to Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, Ryan taught elementary and middle school band in the Brookline Public Schools. He also had the opportunity to study with Gabriel Langfur (bass trombone) of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Vermont Symphony Orchestra. A short relocation to Columbus, Ohio allowed Ryan to work as a recruiter for The Ohio State University School of Music.

Cathy Baranowski graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelors Degree in Music. She has played in the Duquesne University and Slippery Rock Orchestras. Cathy has also been a private music instructor for over fifteen years. Her students have been chosen for the PMEA and Honors Orchestras. Through her education and music experience, she has the ability to teach students of all ages to understand, perform, and appreciate music. She makes learning fun as well as productive.

Rachel D’Abruzzo’s journey with the cello began at the age of eight, and since then she has been teaching and performing throughout the Pittsburgh area. Ms. D’Abruzzo’s education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Duquesne University, where she studied with Mikhail Istomin from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Paula Tuttle from the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet. She graduated with her Master's degree from Duquesne University under the tutelage of Adam Liu of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Ms. D’Abruzzo has performed in a variety of church venues, as well as concert series such as Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch. She has also performed in various string and piano ensembles throughout the Pittsburgh area.

When she isn’t performing, she teaches a variety of string and piano students throughout the Pittsburgh area. Many of her students have gone on to pursue music degrees with cello being their main focus. Ms. D’Abruzzo has performed as a section cellist in a number of orchestras such as Johnstown, Westmoreland, Washington, and Butler. She has also performed in several summer festivals including the CLAZZ music festival (Arcidosso, Italy) and the Aruba Symphony Festival (Oranjestad, Aruba).

Cara Garofalo graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Duquesne University where she studied under Christopher Wu of the Pittsburgh Symphony. She has since continued private studies with other acclaimed teachers including David Kim of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Jeremy Black of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Cara has been an active and passionate performer in music communities throughout Pennsylvania and other states, frequently performing with many symphonies and ensembles including the Reading Symphony Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. She has also worked for summer music festivals including Music Academy International in northern Italy and Endless Mountain Music Festival in Wellsboro, PA. In addition to her classical music background, Cara also enjoys recording, collaborating, and performing with various locally and internationally acclaimed rock and pop artists in addition to her improvisational trio Pariah Dog, which she helped cofound. Cara is trained as a teacher in the Suzuki Method and has held a private studio of students at her home as well as at various schools since 2010. She has great enthusiasm for educating students through music.

Stefanie Schore

Stefanie completed her Masters in Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied violin performance with soloist, Ivan Zenaty and former Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster, Bill Preucil. Stefanie holds positions in a number of regional orchestras including the Akron Symphony, the Youngstown Symphony, and the Erie Philharmonic, and performs regularly with various ensembles throughout PA and OH. She is also a current and founding member of both the North Coast and Drella String Quartets. In the summer of 2014, Stefanie joined the faculty of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where she taught violin and chamber music as a member of their string quartet in residence.

Before moving to Cleveland for her studies, Stefanie spent several years studying, teaching, and performing in Germany. She completed dual undergraduate degrees at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in violin performance and violin pedagogy, where she had the opportunity to study a wide range of teaching methods, including Suzuki, Roland, Kodaly, and Sassmanshaus. Her primary teacher was Winfried Rademacher, (concertmaster of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra) and she completed orchestral studies with first violinist of SWR Stuttgart, Stephan Bornscheuer. Stefanie worked for five years as the head of the string department at the private music school ‘Musik im Zentrum.’ Several of her violin students won first and second prizes in the highly competitive youth music competition ‘Jugendmusiziert.’ Stefanie was awarded a contract with the Frankfurt Opera for the 2013 season where she worked with world-class conductors and artists, including Daniel Barenboim, Nicola Luisotti, Kirill Petrenko and Christian Tezlaff. She also served as concertmaster for the Konzerthaus Orchester Trossingen and performed with a wide range of chamber and orchestral ensembles in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Stefanie enjoys teaching motivated students from beginners to professionals, and she selects from a wide range of repertoire to match each student’s skills and interests.

Will Teegarden

Will Teegarden enjoys a varied career as a cellist and teacher based in Pittsburgh, PA. He actively performs in various regional orchestras throughout Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, holding the associate principal cello chair in the Erie Philharmonic, as well as positions in the Columbus, Canton, Youngstown, and Westmoreland Symphonies. Additionally, he frequently performs with local companies such as Resonance Works PGH, Front Porch Theatricals, and the Pittsburgh Festival Opera. A strong advocate for new music, Will often collaborates with composers and performs their works with Alia Musica and NAT 28 contemporary music ensembles, the latter of which he has garnered critical acclaim as a featured soloist with the group.

He performs frequently as a substitute cellist in the New World Symphony (Miami, FL), and has performed with The Florida Orchestra, the Wheeling Symphony, the Akron Symphony, and the Orlando Philharmonic, under conductors Manfred Honeck, Michael Tilson Thomas, Matthias Bamert, Yan Pascal Tortelier, JoAnn Falleta, among others. He holds degrees in music from the University of Florida and Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with cellists Steven Thomas, David Premo, and Anne Martindale Williams. At Carnegie Mellon, he served as Co-Principal Cello, and earned first prize with his colleagues in the school's Silberman Chamber Music Competition with an enthusiastically received rendition of Oliver Messiaen's "Quatuor pour la fin du temps". Additionally, Will has attended the National Repertory Orchestra, Brevard Music Center, and the Innsbrook Institute Summer Festivals.

With proper guidance, Will believes that any student can succeed in and find great joy in music-making. He strives to teach every student as comprehensively and holistically as possible so that they, too, can find great happiness from a large wooden box with metal strings.

Nicholas Huneycutt is a freelance percussionist and educator located in the greater Pittsburgh area. Currently, Nicholas keeps busy as a founding member of NAT 28, a new music ensemble that features both Pittsburgh area composers and musicians. You can see him playing drum set all across Pittsburgh with his brass funk group, The Employees of Funk. Nicholas also maintains an extensive teaching schedule at Carnegie Mellon University as an adjunct professor, the CMU Prep School, Johnstonbaugh’s Music Center, and Sunburst School of Music. His freelancing career has brought him to perform with fantastic regional and national groups including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, Resonance Works, and the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. His performance experience behind drum set has brought him to play alongside Jazz greats Bob Mintzer, Bill Watrous, and Luis Marin from Puerto Rico.

Nicholas holds both a Master’s Degree and an Advanced Musical Studies Certificate in Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where his principal teachers were Jeremy Branson (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), Paul Evans (River City Brass), and Christopher Allen (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra). He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Sam Houston State University (Huntsville, TX), where he studied with Dr. John Lane and Chris Riggs (Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra). Nicholas is an alumnus of the Brevard Music Festival, where he studied with Chip Ross (Rochester Philharmonic) and Gwendolyn Dease (Michigan State University) and has also spent a summer in Maine performing at the Pierre Monteux Music Festival alongside Carlos Avila (Puerto Rico Symphony).

She studied piano, organ, and voice at both universities. She is currently the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church (Connellsville) and Reunion Presbyterian Church (Mount Pleasant). Miss Stipcak formerly served at churches in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas. She has a private music studio at Asbury United Methodist Church (Uniontown) and she also teaches in-home lessons in Indiana and Westmoreland Counties. She also accompanied the private voice studio of a local opera singer. She regularly plays for weddings, funerals, cocktail piano hours, and other events.

While living in Atlanta, Miss Stipcak had the opportunity to play for a televised memorial service in City Hall and she also played for chapel services for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She worked as a Music Administrator for Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, one of the largest Methodist churches in the country with a successful music ministry.

She was formerly the music director for Carousel the musical at Saint Vincent College, the pianist for the pit for Crazy for You at Belle Vernon High School, and vocal director and pianist for Sister Act at Jeannette High School.

Her students know her as “Miss Val.” She offers two recitals a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, at the Allison Park store for her students. Her piano and voice students have won awards, gotten solos in concerts, gotten accepted into auditioned choirs, and gotten lead parts in musicals.

She resides in Blairsville. She has a rescue Shih Tzu, Arvo, named for Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

A professional pianist and flautist with extensive classical training and performance experience, Lisa Rae Vaughan is Executive Director for the Lisa Rae Music Studios, LLC. In 1994, Ms. Vaughan implemented a network of community-centric teaching studios and has supervised the music education of more than 1000 students ages birth to 85.<

At Johnstonbaugh’s Music Centers, Ms. Vaughan offers private piano lessons. Students are prepared and afforded opportunities to participate in studio-wide recitals, piano competitions, professional evaluations, and Music Clubs Festivals.

Ms. Vaughan graduated from Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University where she earned a Bachelor of Science double degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering and Engineering Public Policy. It was at the prestigious CMU that she studied classical piano with Nelson Whitaker. First trained in classical and sacred music by her mother, Natheleen Murphy Vaughan, she broadened her musical horizons through private studies with flautist James Walker, formerly of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and co-founder of the jazz ensemble "Free Flight". She has also attended the Jamie Aebersold Jazz Camp in Louisville, KY, and most recently, studied jazz piano with the national touring pianist, Frank Cunimondo.

Liz Rishel

Liz Rishel, a native of the Pittsburgh area, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Duquesne University and regularly performs roles for Coloratura Soprano. She recently played Frasquita in Undercroft Opera’s Carmen and Lady Psyche in The Pittsburgh Savoyards 2013 Production of Princess Ida.

In October of 2010, she and artistic partner Bonnie Bogovich composed, produced, and performed their own original multi-media opera entitled Evenings in Quarantine: The Zombie Opera, which Rishel also costumed. Funded by generous grants from the Sprout Fund and the Heinz Endowments, the opera enjoyed remarkable success during its first sold-out run, prompting encore performances for two more consecutive seasons.

Liz also recently had the pleasure of costuming Opera Theater’s production of the Frank Lloyd Wright opera biography, The Shining Brow, which was performed in their annual Summerfest and also at Falling Water.

When she is not teaching or performing, Rishel frequently sews for business or pleasure, occasionally working with independent filmmakers and cosplayers. Her favorite roles include Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), The Five-Year-Old (The Proposal), and Antonia (Man of LaMancha).

Craig “Izzy” Arlet graduated from Pittsburgh’s High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) in 1997 with an award for Best Jazz Student and immediately started an international performance career. From 1998 to 2003 he worked as a touring musician, performing everything from hip-hop to country & western to traditional Cuban son montuno with various ensembles throughout the U.S. and Central America. His performance credits include Clay Aiken, Mr. Cleve Duncan and the Penguins (original singer of “Earth Angel”), Pittsburgh swing band Dr. Zoot, jazz vocalist Phat Man Dee, oldies group The Magic Moments, spoken word artist Christiane D, The John Parker Band, Guaracha Latin Dance Band, the Reggie Watkins Octet, and many more. He has been teaching full-time since coming off the road in 2003. A multi-instrumentalist, he can teach guitar (acoustic or electric), mandolin, banjo, accordion, ukulele, steel guitar (pedal and lap), and resophonic guitar (dobro).

Dan Burgun graduated summa cum laude from the Duquesne University School of Music with a B.A. in Guitar Performance. He is a versatile musician, adept in pop/rock formats, and specializing in jazz and classical guitar. He maintains a busy teaching and performance schedule in the Pittsburgh area and favors a personalized teaching style, adapted to the need and goals of each student. Dan has experience teaching students of all ages and abilities.

“Exceptional talent with virtuoso technique,” writes Mike Cimballa, music critic and violinist with the Charlotte Symphony of his lyrical interpretations of his music. Born and educated in Pittsburgh, Matthew Korbanic has earned a master's degree in classical guitar performance from Carnegie Mellon University. Some of his noted teachers have been Dr. Nathan Davis, James Ferla, and Joe Negri. As a player on the newly innovated 8 string “Brahms” style guitar by Paul Galbraith, he has toured the east coast and mid-west and has received grants to study with Mr. Galbraith. He has been a return performer with the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the Pittsburgh Opera, and the Pittsburgh Arts Council. As a soloist and as a member of a flute and guitar duo, he has been presented live on WQED-FM in Pittsburgh. Ryan Kantner is a professional musician and educator in the greater Pittsburgh area, and has been actively studying and performing music for over twenty years. Ryan teaches and performs on a variety of instruments, but mainly specializes in acoustic and electric guitar, electric and upright bass, and drum set and percussion, while also maintaining a healthy interest in ukulele, mandolin, banjo, and singing. Ryan has performed live and in the studio with many different types of groups, ranging from rock, jazz, blues and funk, to country, classical, marching bands and klezmer.

From a teaching point of view, Ryan seeks to impart his students with musical skills and values that are useful in real-life applications. Rather than just focusing on rote book knowledge and the memorization of facts, lesson time is spent learning how to ask good questions, think critically, and to be aware of the physical and mental hurdles that can get in the way of music making.

Ryan is a 2007 graduate of West Chester University, where he studied percussion, upright bass, and literature. Since then, he has been busy as a performer, educator, and amateur etymologist.
