Instructor: Amanda Kraeger

Description: Amanda Kraeger was born in upstate New York and moved to Pittsburgh for her undergraduate studies at Seton Hill University. She has taught piano for seven years and has worked with all age ranges from pre-school up to those in their 80’s. Amanda’s students prepare and perform in an annual recital.

Amanda began playing the piano at age nine and the organ at age twelve. She has played the piano and organ for mass since she was fourteen, and has been the music director for St. John the Baptist Church since 2008. Amanda’s Bachelor Degree is in Sacred Music from Seton Hill University, and her Masters Degree is in Organ Performance from Houghton College. While in college, Amanda was an accompanist for the Women’s Chorale and University Choir, and received a graduate assistant assignment in accompanying from Houghton College.

Amanda loves working one-on-one with students to help them learn and grow their musical talent. It is such a joy for her to see her students develop and explore music, and to give them the tools for a lasting musical education.

    Description: Cara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Grove City College where she studied both piano and flute. During her college years, she was involved in Orchestra, Marching Band, and various ensembles. Cara teaches students of all ages and levels and wishes to pass along to them her love for music. She caters lessons according to the interests and tastes of each individual student. Students are given the opportunity to perform in two recitals during the year (Christmas and Summer). Besides teaching, Cara performs at nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the Pittsburgh area.

    Description: Carol Marchelletta is currently a student at Duquesne University pursuing a degree in Music Education while taking a minor in Psychology. Carol has been trained by various teachers and professors, including Kenneth Burky, who is a professor of piano at Duquesne University, in classical piano since the age of five. In addition to her training on classical piano, Carol has also received classical training in voice.

    Both teaching and performing have always been passions in Carol’s life and are two aspects that she takes very seriously. Carol has played a various solo performances as well as accompanied others in many collaborative performances. Carol has been teaching students of various ages and skill since high school. While teaching lessons, Carol works closely with her students to assist them in achieving a high level of technical skill and musicianship.

    Description: John V. Kulik, NCTM holds a B.S. degree in Music Education St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA, and a M.M. degree in Piano Pedagogy from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. He is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music with over 30 years of teaching experience with students age 4 and up. Mr. Kulik has taught private as well as class piano at Chatham College’s Laboratory School of Music, Pittsburgh, PA and at Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, PA. He has had many successful students place in performance and composition competitions at the local and state levels of PMTA. Mr. Kulik currently maintains an independent studio of children and adults in Murrysville, PA and is a frequent solo and collaborative pianist in the area as well as being a performing member of the Friday Evening Music Club, Greensburg, PA.

    Description: Josie Merlino recently earned her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from Duquesne University and is a student of David Allen Wehr. She serves as the Director of Liturgical Music at Mary Mother of the Church in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, and the associate accompanist and organist of the Westmoreland Choral Society as well as the accompanist of the Westmoreland Children’s Chorus, both in Greensburg, PA. She works as a staff accompanist at Duquesne University and Seton Hill University, as well as working actively as a collaborative pianist, organist, and teacher throughout the Pittsburgh, Greensburg, and Mon Valley areas. It is a joy and delight for her to teach piano lessons at Johnstonbaugh’s Music Center.

    Description: A professional pianist and flautist with extensive classical training and performance experience, Lisa Rae Vaughan is Executive Director for the Lisa Rae Music Studios, LLC. In 1994, Ms. Vaughan implemented a network of community-centric teaching studios and has supervised the music education of more than 1000 students ages birth to 85.

    LRMS offers private and group music lessons to youth, adult, and students with special needs (incl. autism, ADHD, physical and mental challenges) through its multiple Western PA sites and licensed Music Together Centers. At Johnstonbaugh’s Music Centers, Ms. Vaughan offers private piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and violin lessons. Students are prepared and afforded opportunities to participate in studio-wide recitals, piano competitions, professional evaluations, and Music Clubs Festivals.

    Ms. Vaughan was graduated from Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University where she earned a Bachelor of Science double degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering and Engineering Public Policy. It was at the prestigious CMU that she studied classical piano with Nelson Whitaker. First trained in classical and sacred music by her mother, Natheleen Murphy Vaughan, she broadened her musical horizons through private studies with flautist James Walker, formerly of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and co-founder of the jazz ensemble "Free Flight". She has also attended the Jamie Aebersold Jazz Camp in Louisville, KY, and most recently, studied jazz piano with the national touring pianist, Frank Cunimondo.

    Description: Melinda Plowman is a graduate of Clarion State University with a graduate study at Indiana University of Pa. She is a trained classical pianist with extensive performance experience. She has taught piano privately for Larry Cervi School of Performing Arts, Murphy’s Music Studio, and Open Door Christian Academy. She is an accomplished accompanist for the Larry Cervi School of Performing Arts, Kiski Area High School and Junior High School Choirs. She previously accompanied Highlands, Leechburg, Apollo Ridge, and St. Joseph’s High School Choirs. As well as the Vandergift Casino Theatre, New Kensington Civic Theatre, and Natrona Heights Rotary Club Concerts.

    Description: Sunyoung earned her master’s degree in electronic music composition from Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music. She began playing piano at age 7, and has performed and taught students of all ages in the U.S. and South Korea. In addition to teaching and playing the piano, Sunyoung has worked as a composer of video game music since 2011.

    *Act 33/34 Clearance Teacher* This means that the teacher has received Act 33/34 Clearances from the State of Pennsylvania. Act 33/34 Clearances are designed to ensure that people who work with children have a record clear of child abuse and crime. All schools in Pennsylvania require that teachers and school staff have Act 33/34 Clearances. In June of 2005, Johnstonbaugh’s Music Centers implemented a policy that all new teachers are required to have Act 33/34 Clearances.
